Moldova will pay 382.24 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres of gas in the first quarter of 2012, and 387 dollars taking into account the calorific value of gas. This is by 3.69 per cent less than in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to a press release by the Moldovan-Russian joint venture Moldovagaz.

The acquisition price was 395.53 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres in the fourth quarter of 2011, and 402.27 dollars taking into account the calorific value of gas.

The gas operator said that the Russian gas giant Gazprom calculated the gas price for the first quarter of 2012 according to the 2007-2011 gas contract, which was extended until 31 March 2012. Negotiations on a new gas contract were suspended in November 2011 as Gazprom requested that Moldova should clarify its stance on the implementation of the EU's third energy package.

In the first quarter of 2011, the import price stood at about 290 dollars to increase to 395.53 dollars in the fourth quarter.
