The coat of arms of the Republic of Moldova, as adopted in 1990, consists of a shield divided horizontally into two parts: the upper part is red, and the lower part is blue with a wisent’s head showing an eight-pointed star between its horns. On its right the wisent’s head is flanked by a five-petal rose, and on its left by a slightly inclined crescent, facing left.

All heraldic elements present on the shield are of golden (yellow) color. The shield is placed on the breast of an eagle, holding a golden cross in its beak; a green olive-tree branch in its right foot claws, and a golden scepter in its left foot claws. The coat of arms is shown on the central yellow stripe of Moldova’s state flag.
The State flag of the Republic of Moldova, as adopted in 1994, is a tricolor. It is the official symbol of the Republic of Moldova. It symbolizes the past, the present and the future of Moldova, reflecting its democratic principles, the traditions and history of Moldovan people, equal rights, friendship and solidarity amongst all Moldovans.
The State flag of the Republic of Moldova - the tricolor - represents a rectangular cloth formed of three equal-sized colored parts. The colors are arranged vertically in the following order from the flagpole: blue, yellow and red. The coat of arms is printed on the central yellow stripe of the tricolor.
The proportion between the width of the coat of arms and the length of the flag is 1 to 5; the proportion between the width and the length of flag is 1 to 2. Moldova’s flag – similar to the state flags of Paraguay and Saudi Arabia – is among the few state flags which have different front side and reverse side. Moldova’s flag shows the coat of arms only on the front side.
